ATC Develops One-Shot Thermal Fuse Option

ATC Semitec now offers the Pepi H series for applications where a reliable one-shot thermal fuse option is required. Pepi H bimetal fuses do not suffer from ageing like conventional thermal fuses and so can be used at temperatures much closer to their switch point, according to ATC.

This means that should a fault condition occur, the H-type fuse will react quicker, offering enhanced security to the appliance and its user. Pepi H series thermal fuses are capable of switching up to 10A/250V AC (15A/120V AC) and are approved to the latest EN 60-730 standards. Calibrations from 130C to 260C are currently available in the H series, with higher values planned in the near future.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
