Converter Provides Low Current For Point Of Load

TI's 2.5A step-down Swift converter provides low operating current to 12, 24 and 48V point-of-load designs and GSM/GPRS modules used in electronic meters, fleet management and security systems. Texas Instruments' 2.5A step-down Swift converter supports input voltages up to 60V. The TPS54260 monolithic synchronous switcher with integrated high-side FET provides up to 95 per cent efficiency.

It offers current mode control, which provides fast transient response, simple external compensation and flexible component selection. The device also enters into a low-ripple pulse-skip mode, which reduces the no-load, regulated output supply current down to 138uA. When disabled, the device draws 1.3uA.

TI's high-efficiency Swift device with integrated 200mohm high-side FET supports a 2.5A continuous current and a power-stage input-voltage range from 3.5 to 60 V. Frequency range is 100kHz to 2.5MHz and the thermally enhanced MSOP package measures 3 x 4.9 x 1mm. Synchronised switching frequency from a master clock eliminates beat noise in sensitive data-acquisition circuitry. Feature-rich IC includes power-good, enable and tracking pins for sequencing.
