HT Inserts Support Heavy Machining Applications

Taegutec has developed the HT range of chipbreaker inserts for extremely heavy turning operations to meet the needs of the wind turbine and shipbuilding industries. To accommodate heavy machining applications, the new HT Series of ISO chipbreaker inserts has a corner radius of up to 3.2mm to prevent insert breakage under heavy cutting operations. The inserts can machine a variety of materials, including various grades of cast iron, steel and stainless steel.

The company has added the TT8115, TT8125, TT5100 and TT7100 insert grades to the new HT range. Taegutec can provide additional grades for alternative materials to accommodate specific customer requests. With the HT inserts, the research and development team at Taegutec has created an optimal insert design that efficiently evacuates swarf from the cutting area. This design also dissipates heat away from the cutting edge to guarantee a long and stable tool life.

This is a critical element for an insert that can machine depths of cut from 2mm to 11mm at feed rates of up to 1.2mm/rev. The new inserts are available with corner radius dimensions of 1.2mm, 1.6mm, 2.4mm and 3.2mm. To enhance rigidity, surface finish and tool life, the HT inserts are single sided. The company recommends that the inserts are used on large or rigid and robust machine tools.
