Low-Smoke Control Cable Suits Rapid Transit

Alpha Wire cable targets applications such as rapid transit and any industrial and commercial applications where fire in confined space would create a health hazard and possibly endanger life. The low-smoke, zero-halogen communication and control cable (LSZH) is available from Aerco. The Alpha Wire range of cable reduces the smoke produced as a result of burning cable and eliminates the halogen emitted, without compromising on mechanical and electrical performance.

The LSZH cable has corrosion-resistant tinned copper conductors and stranded conductors for installation flexibility, and is available in multipair and multiconductor configurations and in versions that are foil shielded for EMI protection and improved signal integrity. It also has colour-coded conductor insulation for clear, positive identification.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
