Positive Voltage Regulator IC Uses CMOS Technology

Seiko Instruments has developed the S-11L10 series positive voltage regulator IC using CMOS technology, suitable as a power supply for battery-powered devices, mobile phones and portable equipment. The positive voltage regulator IC has a low output voltage, a high-accuracy output voltage and a low current consumption (150mA output current). A 1.0mF small ceramic capacitor can be used and the S-11L10 series operates with a low-current consumption of 9mA typical.

The over-current protection circuit prevents the load current from exceeding the capacitance of the output transistor, while the power-off circuit ensures longer battery life. According to the company, various capacitors, and even small ceramic capacitors, can be used for this IC more than for the conventional regulator ICs that incorporate CMOS technology. Small SOT-23-5 and SNT-6A(H) packages realise high-density mounting.

The lead-free S-11L10 series features: a low output voltage of 0.8V to 3.3V, selectable in 0.05V step; a low input voltage of 1.2V to 3.65V; a low equivalent-series resistance capacitor (a ceramic capacitor of 1.0mF or more can be used as the input/output capacitor); a high-accuracy output voltage of +/-1.0 per cent (0.8V to 1.45V output product, +/-15mV); a low dropout voltage of 210mV typical (products having the output of 1.5V, IOUT = 100mA); a low current consumption of 9.0mA typical and 16mA maximum during operation and 0.1mA typical and 0.9mA maximum during power-off; an output current, possible to output 150mA (at VIN >= VOUT(S) + 1.0V); ripple rejection of 60dB typical (at 1.0kHz, VOUT = 1.25V); a built-in over-current protection circuit, which limits over-current of output transistor; a built-in power-off circuit, which ensures a long battery life; a discharge shunt function; a selectable constant-current source pull-down; and a small package (SOT-23-5, SNT-6A[H]).
