Turcon And Zurcon Seals Reduce Friction

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has released the Turcon PTFE-based (poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene) and Zurcon polyurethane sealing materials, which improve efficiency in dynamic hydraulic applications. Innovative seals, such as Turcon Stepseal 2K and Zurcon U-Cup RU9, use patented technologies with tribological benefits. Lars Pleth Nielsen, manager of the Tribology Center at the Danish Technological Institute, estimates that between two and four per cent of an industrialised country's gross domestic product (GDP) is lost through friction and the wearing out of mechanical parts.

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions also recognises that surface finishes can significantly enhance the performance of elastomer seals and has devoted considerable resources to identifying effective coatings and treatments for different applications. This led to the development of the Flexcoat range, which provides optimum friction characteristics, enhancing the performance of elastomer seals, especially in automated-assembly operations.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
