Universal Cover Tape Addresses Peel Variation

The Universal Cover Tape (UCT) from 3M is a class of cover tape with design features that address peel variation, allowing removal of the centre section only. Optimal performance is achieved regardless of width or carrier material. The product is a transparent film tape with a synthetic and room-temperature pressure-sensitive zone. UCT incorporates the value-added design features and removes the pain-points of pressure sensitive (PSA) and heat-applied adhesives (HAA).

Adaptsys is using 3M tape solutions in its VTek taping machines. The combined solution offers flexible, easy-to-use features that improve productivity and reduce worker downtime. As the UCT solution is pressure-sealed, no heat activation is required, therefore the system price is reduced - no heater module or compressed air - just pressure reels. This makes it a simpler system to use and reduces energy consumption.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
