Unregulated DC/DC Converters For Process Control

Mornsun has announced the A series and B series of low-cost, unregulated DC/DC converters for applications in industries including process control, instrumentation and telecommunications. The line-up of models includes power ratings of 1W or 2W, fixed input voltages ranging from 3.3VDC to 24VDC, and single- or dual-output voltages from 3.3VDC to 24VDC. The converters feature industry standard through-hole or surface-mount packages.

Efficiency is stated up to 80 per cent and the mean time before failure is calculated to 3,500,000 hours. Full load operation for the products is specified over the -40C to +85C temperature range. All of the series are designed with high-quality components, internal SMD construction and are RoHS compliant. Some models are approved to UL60950-1.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
