Parker Exhibits Technologies For Marine Sector

At METS 2010, Parker Hannifin's Racor division will exhibit a range of marine filtration technologies, including its Village Marine water purification systems, which are now available in Europe. The company will also showcase its portable fuel filtration carts, as well as other solutions designed to optimise the comfort, performance and reliability of marine vessels - from cruisers and military ships to super yachts.

In particular, the LT Series Water Makers have been developed to meet the freshwater requirements of vessels, providing a safe, reliable and efficient source of purified water onboard for drinking water, ice, showers, washing machines and dishwashers. These modular units utilise reverse osmosis technology to remove impurities from seawater, brackish water, fresh water and tap water, and are said to be the quietest water makers on the market.

They are built to high standards of safety, maintainability and reliability, and are energy efficient, helping to keep the costs of owning a boat to a minimum. Also on show will be the company's latest marine fuel filtration systems for optimising diesel engine performance and reliability in demanding marine environments. For example, its latest generation of portable filter carts enables engineers to economically protect systems from particulate and moisture contamination while in-situ, helping to drive down maintenance costs and downtime.

Incorporating a rugged industrial gear pump, the portable filter carts ensure the quality of fluid and maximise the performance of onboard systems. Additionally, Parker Racor's FBO units filter fuel effectively at a number of stages in the fuel system, including fuel dispensing and refuelling, and can act as an efficient on-engine microfilter or absorptive filter, keeping it free from water and particulates. Featuring a locking ring collar, which attaches the filter housing to the filter head with four bolts, these filters are said to be quick and simple to install and change.

This setup enables a single maintenance engineer to change the filter element in just a few minutes by loosening the bolts by hand and rotating and lowering the bowl, without the need for wrenches or special tools. The AF M701212 heavy-duty air filter/silencer will also be on show. Developed to reduce air flow restriction by 20 per cent compared with competing models, this product provides effective air filtration for the latest high-performance marine engines, resulting in a more reliable and noticeably quieter performance, according to the company.

Removing contaminants that are introduced into the air supply from outside and inside the vessel, the filter's oil-impregnated media can remove sand, salt and other contaminants effectively, preventing them from degrading the performance and reducing the service life of the engine. The filter housing features an integral hose connection, which routes clean blow-by gases from the CCV back into the engine, increasing the efficiency and enabling the latest environmental regulations to be met simply and cost effectively.
