AVX Introduces Automotive-Specific Varistors

AVX has expanded its Transguards Series to include automotive-specific varistors tested to load-dump and jump-start requirements. Designated the VCAS Series, the AEC Q200-qualified varistors are designed to automobile industry standards and feature an excellent energy-/current-handling capability, according to the company.The VCAS Series varistors provide bidirectional protection and are print controlled to include users in the product modification process.

Available in voltage ratings ranging from 16VDC to 85VDC with case sizes from 0402 to 1210, the VCAS Series is suitable for CAN-based module, sensor, module load-dump protection and motor/inductive load transient suppression applications in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and commercial vehicles. AVX plans to expand the VCAS Series to include lower-voltage ratings and case sizes 1812 and 2220.
