AVX Launches New Version of Applications Software

AVX has introduced version 1.1 of its Spitan III applications software that enables designers to view all basic characteristics and parameters for tantalum and Oxicap (niobium oxide) capacitors. The company has also launched an S-parameter Library in v1.1, which includes s2p files. Spitan III v1.1 enables the designer to choose a desired component by actual part number or by reference to capacitance, rated voltage, case size or series.

For selected capacitors, all basic parameters such as the frequency characteristics of capacitance, ESR, impedance, DF and ripple current and ripple voltage ratings are displayed. In addition, leakage current DCL versus time progress can be studied and an equivalent circuit diagram with values of all elements can be displayed. All graphs can be exported either as pictures or as data for further evaluation, for example, in Excel.

The latest version of Spitan III v1.1 includes part numbers of various SMD chip capacitor series released during 2010. High-reliability and performance wet tantalum axial capacitors are presented in the software database. Features include maximal ESR curves versus frequency and temperature, maximal leakage current DCL curve versus time, and S-parameter s2p files generator.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays.
