Burst-Detection System Gains IP66 Rating

Elfab's Flo-Teit+, a non-invasive, fail-safe detection system suitable for safety-critical environments, is now suitable for use on FPSO units within the oil and gas industry. Flo-Teit+ can be either hardwired or used in conjunction with Elfab's ATEX-approved wireless detection system, Radio-Teit.

An IP66 rating makes Flo-Teit+ suitable for use in highly dusty environments and areas where short-term flooding may occur. This has expanded the range of customers to whom the product is relevant, which now includes FPSO units within the oil and gas industry. The capabilities of Flo-Teit+ include triggering alarms and shutting down processes.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
