Compact I/O Modules Suit Packaging Machines

Pepperl and Fuchs has introduced the AS-Interface G10 line of IP68/69K I/O modules for highly distributed installations such as conveyor sections and packaging machines. The G10 line features compact dimensions, allowing machine builders design systems that feature an uncluttered, elegant look. The compact size also allows I/O modules to be placed in small spaces. The G10 modules are installed in a process called Connect and Done; users simply connect the AS-Interface module to the network.

The modules are so small they can easily be dropped in cable trays, according to Pepperl and Fuchs. They are also light enough to be supported - without bolting them down - by the cable routed along a machine. If an engineer still wants to bolt it to the machine frame, the G10 acts as the cable attachment. With Connect and Done, users face fewer limitations and installations can be finished more quickly, the company added. IP68/69K rated modules provide high mounting flexibility, especially when the housing material exhibits a high degree of chemical resistance and is mechanically well designed.

They can withstand dripping water, frequent wash-downs, and cleaning with harsh chemicals. The G10 modules come with integrated pigtails. Sensors (inputs) and outputs are quickly connected and no additional cables are needed. This increases the installation speed, limits costs and reduces the number of components needed on a machine. The G10 module range comes with two inputs on every model. A model with two inputs and one output is also available. This makes the G10 range suitable for highly distributed installations, such as conveyor sections and packaging machines.

Compared with addressing distributed installations with more conventional four-input modules, the two inputs design of the G10 modules reduces waste and is efficient. The G10 includes many of the features found on the G11 series of AS-Interface modules. Pepperl and Fuchs has incorporated the same concentric seal contours around the gold-plated piercing contacts so that all G10 modules satisfy IP68/69K. The G10 also features rugged housing material and a centre stainless-steel mounting screw.
