Conference Will Showcase CAE Process Workshops

2011 STAR European Conference will explore the techniques, support and technology that will allow allow companies to improve their CAE processes. The event will be held on 22-23 March 2011 at the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin in the Netherlands, a beach-front hotel located 20 minutes from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, and will include talks from more than 40 leading industrial presenters.

These industrial experts will reveal the secrets of their success, exploring their CAE processes and demonstrating in detail the tangible benefits that they have realised through using STAR-CCM+ and STAR-CD Workshops. CD-adapco experts will be presenting 20 workshop sessions covering topics including Meshing, Turbulence Modeling, Heat Transfer, Aeroacoustics and Aerodynamics.

STAR-CCM+ V6 will be applied to the solution of real industrial problems in the hands of expert CD-adapco staff. As well as meeting other industrial users and CAE partners, the STAR European Conference is attendees' chance to meet the people behind the software, including CD-adapco Management, Software Developers and Support Engineers.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
