Cutting Tools for Manufacturing Small Components

Now available from Floyd Automatic Tooling, Applitec's new range of 35-degree inserts and holders for its ISO-line cutting tools is suitable for intricate and highly accurate machining applications. Suitable for use on sliding-head turning centres and CNC turning centres used in the medical, electronic, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, the new 35-degree ISO line is a diverse range for manufacturing small components. The cutter bodies are available in sizes from 8 x 8 to 20 x 20mm in 2mm increments and can be ordered as left or right handed with a neutral series also an option.

The ISO line has two left- and right-hand cutter body designations available with an additional two bodies specifically for back turning and form machining. This makes the 35-degree ISO line from Applitec a universal cutting tool for all intricate turning operations. Expanding upon its universal attributes, this new ISO line enables customers to conduct back and front machining with a cutter design that allows both cutting edges on the insert to be utilised. This can reduce machining cycle and set-up times, while also allowing the customer to use the Applitec 35-degree cutter as a universal tool for a multitude of processes.

The inserts are available in two sizes with a cutting-face length of 11mm with an actual cutting length of 7mm. With an insert radius option of 0.03, 0.08, 0.1 or 0.2, the 35-degree line optimises high precision and accurate machining. The inserts have a wiper effect that delivers good surface finishes and chip control. The inserts are available in Applitec's TiAlN, TiN and TMax micro-grain grades with a PVD coating. This enables the new offering to machine a universal range of materials that includes free-cutting steels and aluminium.

For the machining of medical or aerospace-grade materials such as titanium and inconel or additional materials that create high temperatures when machining, Applitec has developed its uncoated inserts that are available in its specialised K10 and K20 grades. This wide spectrum of insert grades and coatings enables Applitec to deliver a new series of cutting tools to meet the every-day needs of the end user.
