Flir Introduces E-series Thermal Imaging Cameras

Flir Systems is offering the E-series of thermal imaging cameras, suitable for those wanting enhanced imaging quality and more analysis functions from an entry-level thermal imaging camera. The E-series is said to offer good value in thermal imaging and digital camera resolution and cost less than other models with inferior capability. Four versions complete this series with a high-end model, the Flir E60, providing 76,800pixels from its 320 x 240 uncooled detector.

This enables the user to see more detail and take more accurate temperature readings so that thermal anomalies down to 0.05C can be detected. It also allows potential problems to be detected quickly, safely and from further away. Three of the Flir E-series models allow real-time thermal imaging at 60Hz for the efficient capture of moving components and dynamic events, revealing details that a 9Hz camera will miss. A built-in 3-megapixel digital camera produces the clear visible light reference pictures for complete and detailed documentation.

Good quality images can be taken even in dark environments thanks to the inclusion of an LED lamp on the front of the camera. All models come with a laser pointer to help associate the hot spot on the thermal image with the physical target in the field. Depending on the model, the Flir E-series camera can measure temperatures up to +650C and includes analysis tools such as multiple spot meters, automatic hot/cold detection markers, isotherm and automatic calculation of the temperature difference between two user-defined points on the image.

With predictive maintenance a target market for these thermal imaging cameras, they also have a range of features that optimise electro-mechanical inspection. These include: picture-in-picture thermal and visual image overlay; thermal fusion that merges both image types; digital zoom and text/voice annotation. All images are saved in jpg format and stored on an SD card. The E-series from Flir is designed for use in harsh environments and has an IP54-rated protective housing.

Easy access to all the analytics tools is via an intuitive user interface that takes full advantage of the entire 3.5in touch screen. All camera control buttons are at the user's fingertips, making them easy to use. The Flir E-series enables the wireless transmission of images and other information to mobile devices such as an Iphone, Ipod Touch or Ipad. In this way, users can share critical information immediately with decision-makers on-site or via e-mail.

The majority of models in the Flir E-series range also include Meterlink. This feature allows the transfer of important diagnostic data, acquired by an Extech clamp meter, to the thermal imaging camera to support findings and decisions. All models are supplied with standard software that facilitates the creation of basic inspection reports. They are also compatible with the Flir advanced software packages.
