Peripherals Enable Reading of RFID and Smart Cards

Advantech has released specific-function peripherals allowing UTC-500 computers to serve vertical applications including retail, school, patient registration, visitor reception and digital signage. The peripheral kits conveniently attach to a groove along the edge of UTC-500 series devices, resulting in efficient tailoring that reduces time-to-market. Peripheral kits include: a two-megapixel camera module, a magnetic-stripe reader, an RFID reader and a smart-card reader.

The design is flexible, easy to deploy and suitable for limited-space environments. The RFID module can be used to identify visitors at a seminar using RFID badges. Hospital-patient check-in can be facilitated with the smart-card-reader module where an IC card is swiped to automate the process and eliminate errors. The magnetic-stripe-reader module is suitable for time and attendance applications, replacing paper-punch card systems.

Interactive mini-kiosks can serve signage applications and event information at hotel reception and other public areas. The camera module is suitable for applications such as taking student photographs in schools. Advantech can also assist with customisation if a customer's application has special requirements.
