Werum MES to Manage Weighing and Dispensing Tasks

Generics pharmaceutical group Actavis will implement PAS-X, a manufacturing execution system (MES) from Werum Software and Systems, at its new production facility in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria. Actavis recently moved its headquarters from Iceland to Switzerland and was looking for an advanced MES to manage its weighing and dispensing (W and D) processes. Its main objective was to find a standardised product to improve and streamline its existing shop-floor IT infrastructure.

With PAS-X, Actavis has decided in favour of an off-the-shelf product that provides maximum standard functionality for the required workflows and system integration capabilities. In order to exchange warehousing and order management information between the MES and the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, the installation interfaces to Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the ERP system used by Actavis in Dupnitsa. PAS-X introduces electronic batch recording (EBR) and electronic materials management for W and D processes.

In addition, it replaces paper logbooks for equipment such as scales, including daily calibration. The software is intended to improve efficiency and performance. It will also enhance the right-first-time factor for weighing, materials and equipment management and advance quality control. The application enables order-related material tracking for the W and D processes and ensures Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance. PAS-X helps to reduce operator errors and deviations by strong user guidance and best-practice workflows, including plausibility checks and electronically parameterised specifications.
