Workshop Showcases Non-Destructive Testing Systems

Lot-Oriel has targeted the NDT/NDE Workshop for Automotive and Aerospace Inspection at personnel involved with NDE inspection and quality testing of carbon or glass-fibre components. The workshop will be held on 7 June 2011 at Mercedes Benz World in Brooklands, Surrey. It presents an opportunity to see the Voyage IR low-cost portable pulsed thermography system and meet Steve Shepard, chief executive of Thermal Wave.

The day will consist of talks followed by a demonstration in the afternoon. Thermal Wave Imaging is a provider of thermal non-destructive testing to the aerospace and automotive industries. The Voyage IR offers complete non-destructive testing capabilities in a handheld package. Applications include impact damage; disbonds; delamination; water ingress; adhesion and corrosion.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
