MEMS Oscillators for Tablet PC and e-Book Readers

The first complete portfolio of MEMS oscillators for tablet PC and e-book reader designs is now available from MSC. These solutions, all of which are based on Sitime's SiT8003 low-power MEMS oscillator platform, are approximately 30 per cent thinner than quartz and offer up to 10 times better robustness to shock and vibration. The programmable MEMS oscillator can be configured for use in, for example, applications processors, USB2.0 transceivers, platform controller hubs (PCHs), HDMI SoCs, audio codecs and camera modules.

The device features a current consumption of 3.5mA in active mode and less than 5uA in standby mode. Any frequency between 1 and 110MHz with five decimal places of accuracy can be programmed. The Sit 8003 offers +/-25PPM frequency stability over -20 to 70C operating temperature range and is available in a 2.5 x 2mm package. Configurable operating voltages of 1.8, 2.5, 2.8 or 3.3V are available.
