Red Lion’s Industrial Ethernet Switches Approved by Florida Department of Transportation

Red Lion Controls, the global experts in communication, monitoring and control for industrial automation and networking, today announced that select Sixnet EL and SLX series industrial Ethernet switches have been evaluated and approved by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for use in traffic control infrastructure projects.

The Sixnet series EL228, SLX-8MG, SLX-8MS, SLX-10MG and SLX-18MG industrial Ethernet switches were evaluated against Florida DOT specification 684 for roadside use, and were found to meet the requirements of the state’s approved product list. Red Lion’s Sixnet switches are designed to be rugged, reliable and secure in harsh remote locations such as traffic control, railways, power substations and other extreme environments.

“Industrially-hardened products like Red Lion’s Sixnet series of Ethernet switches deliver reliable performance required across extreme conditions that include high heat and humidity,” explained Diane Davis, director of product management, networking for Red Lion Controls. “Achieving this approval gives our customers and partners more choices for intelligent transportation connectivity. By working to be included in the FDOT approved product list, Red Lion is demonstrating our commitment to building rugged networking solutions that can reliably handle network traffic in harsh environments.”

With the addition of the Sixnet switches to the FDOT approved product list, the state of Florida and its counties, cities and municipalities can leverage an expanded range of options to help improve the efficiency of its communications and transportation infrastructure, including automated signal control systems, electronic toll collection, advanced parking control systems, automatic vehicle identification and video surveillance systems.

The Sixnet EL228 is a 28-port (24 + 4G) rackmount Layer 2 managed industrial Ethernet switch designed for traffic control, railway, power substations and other rugged environments. It combines the high performance and security of an enterprise-class switch with hardened packaging and protected circuitry to meet the needs of the most demanding applications. The SLX line of industrial Ethernet switches delivers Layer 2 management and the rugged performance that outdoor applications demand. Available in a variety of port options, SLX switches offer protected circuitry and tough DIN-rail metal packaging.
